The lakes of the Val di Non
Rich in rivers and enchanting lakes, Val di Non is one of the most beautiful and evocative areas of Trentino to visit and explore. The lakes, in particular, make the landscape even more beautiful and more unique, and some of them are surrounded by dreamlike landscapes amazing with their miracles. Let’s discover the most beautiful lakes in the Val di Non!
Lakes of Coredo and Tavon
The two artificial lakes are easily reachable on foot from Coredo or by car, there are various services available including a parking lot, a picnic area with tables, benches and small grills, to spend moments in serenity embraced by the surrounding nature.
In this almost mythical landscape, gnomes carved in wood contribute to creating a special atmosphere, it’s easy to meet those who meditate, do yoga, stretch, read or those who listen to the sounds of nature.
Those who love fishing can practice it here with permits that you can get in our hotel, the equipment should be brought.
The walking tour of the two lakes lasts 30 minutes, but from here, you should disengage from the super-recommended walks towards the Sanctuary of San Romedio, the hermitage of San Romedio, or towards the village of Tavon… and don’t forget to visit the Wood Museum established in the Venetian Sawmill at the two lakes of Coredo.
Lake Santa Giustina
Located right in the center of the Val di Non, near Cles, it is an artificial lake created on the initiative of the Edison Group when the Santa Giustina dam was built between 1943 and 1951 and at the foot of which there is the hermitage of Santa Giustina. This artificial basin, which is also the largest of the artificial lakes of Trentino, offers a magnificent landscape and is located in an extraordinary valley scenery.
The lake extends for about seven and a half kilometers in length and reaches a kilometer and a half in width at its maximum point. This lake offers numerous picturesque sceneries, particularly in its canyons which can be crossed by canoe or kayak to live an extraordinary experience. The Castle of Cles dominating the lake also offers a magnificent view and the wonderful panorama that you can enjoy from different points!
Lake Tovel
Without doubt one of the most beautiful lakes in the Adamello – Brenta Nature Park, Lake Tovel is the largest of the natural lakes of Trentino. It boasts a magnificent fauna and flora, as well as an irresistible wild charm which is surprising since its waters are transparent with shades ranging from deep green to deep blue.
In the past, this lake has become famous for the phenomenon of red waters that occurred in the south-west part of the basin and has been repeated since 1964. The phenomenon was due to a particular alga, called the Tovellia sanguinea, which emerged at the surface and it gave the waters bright red color. You can admire spectacular photos of that period which show the beauty of the lake as if it had been painted by an artist!
The location is ideal for those who want to live a unique experience in contact with nature. While walking along the lake, you can discover splendid sculptures carved on the trees by the Brenta Wood Art artists, of the Casa del Lago Rosso and much more!
Tret Lakes
Located in the sunny Upper Val di Non, the picturesque Tret Lakes, also called the Lake of San Felice, is surrounded by meadows and forests that give life to a true natural paradise. The lake is located just next to the village of Fondo, in the upper part of the valley, on the border with Alto Adige.
The view of the sparkling blue-green waters and the nearby forest that offers shade and tranquility are a real spectacle for the eyes and an ideal destination for those who want to relax in an oasis of peace. The place is never overcrowded and allows you to enjoy the almost mythical atmosphere that invites you to sunbathe on the verdant shore.
Also, the small island in the middle of the lake is worth seeing.
